The Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) yesterday said that it generated over N240.302 billion revenue and handed over a cache of arms comprising rifles and pistols, and narcotics to the State Security Service (SSS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lagos.
Speaking during a press briefing, the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, said in the first two months and 14 days of this year, the Command generated over N240.302 billion.
While performing the handing over, he said the men and officers of the Command seized 12 pieces of rifles and six pistols, two packets of 50 pieces of 9mm live ammunition, totaling 100 rounds and 23 packets weighing 23kg of substance confirmed to be heroine.
However, he lamented that if the weapons and the narcotics had found their way into the hands of kidnappers and terrorists, they would have used them to wreck more havoc on the nation.
“The Command’s anti-smuggling drive has not relented in any way. Being the lead agency at the port, the Enforcement unit has coordinated several 100 percent physical examination under my supervision in collaboration with critical stakeholders to ensure that the Command is freed of any form of non-compliance to international trade,” he said.
“I sincerely wish to appreciate the continuous support of the CGC, Bashir Adeniyi, and his management team. Every support from the Service headquarters is significant in enhancing the Command’s operational activities and contributes largely to its achievements.”
In his comments, the Commandant Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Tin Can Island Port, Mohammed Aminu Abubakar, commended the Nigeria Customs Service for working with the NDLEA towards eradication of inflow of narcotics into the country.
