Tragedy struck at Ede, Osun State, yesterday, as a custom officer, Tijani Kabiru, his wife, and four children, died in an inferno that engulfed their house.
It was gathered that the incident occured around 3:21 a.m at Custom Tijani Kabiru road, Akankan area, Ede North Local Government, when they were entrapped by fire that broke out in the house.
It was gathered that the street was named after the deceased who worked with Oyo/Osun command of the Nigeria custom service.
Speaking through the Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ibraheem, the state director of the fire service, Olaniyi Alimi, confirmed the incident.
He said:”We were informed of the incident via a distress call to our emergency number at 3:21a.m and our team from Ede Zonal Command proceeded to the scene with a backup team joining them from Fire Service Headquarters, Abere.
“Mr Tijani Kabiru who was reported to be in his late 40s and his wife who was reported to be in her early 40s lost their lives to the inferno that was suspected to have started like an hour before fire service got the information.
“They lost their lives alongside four of their children (three boys and a girl) with their age ranging from 10-3 years. Only one of their sons out of the family of seven escaped from the fire, about 13 years of age .
“Their bodies were handed over to the men of A’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force.”
