The Cross River/Calabar Free Trade Zone /Akwa Ibom Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has handed over 659 units of illicit drugs to the Cross River State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency( NDLEA).
The Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Chukwudi Ogbonna disclosed this at Command Headquarters in Calabar.
He disclosed that the pharmaceutical products, worth 18, 420, 631,were intercepted by vigilant officers at the Mfum Border on March, 29, 2025.
According to him , “the seizures comprises of two cartons of Penthidine 100mg/2ml solution injection (216 units), 2 cartons of Morphine Sulphate 10mg solution for injection (216 units) and 37 packets of Phenobarbital Sodium sterop 100mg/ml (37 units).
“Others are: 23 packets of Phenobarbital Sodium Injection USP (23 units) and one Carton of Fentanyl 50 mg/ml solution injection (108 units).
“The command also intercepted 33 packets of midazolam mylan 5mg/ml (33 units) and 26 packets of Sodique Injectable USP – 100mg/ml (26 units)”, he said.
Handing over the drugs to the NDLEA, the Area Commander said it aligns with the Memorandum of Understanding between the agencies, highlighting their collaborative efforts to drive national development.
State Commander of the NDLEA,Rachael Umebuali, welcomed the partnership agreement between the NCS and the NDLEA.
