The cult war ravaging the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA), Rivers State, took another dimension on Wednesday night, June 4, as a suspected faction of the Deygbam cult group shot dead Mr Sango, a member of a local vigilance outfit, at Echue Street, Mile 2 area in the state capital.

Daily Sun gathered that the member of the local vigilance group was ambushed along Echue Street at about 10:00 pm, where he was intercepted and shot dead by a rival Deygbam cult group.

Sources disclosed that the deceased was suspected to be a member of one of the houses of the Deygbam cult group engaged in a supremacy battle in Port Harcourt for the last three weeks, despite being a member of the vigilance group.

Also, it was gathered that a young lady who came to visit her brother at the Mile 1 axis of Diobu, Port Harcourt, was reportedly killed by a stray bullet on Wednesday night as the rampaging cultists engaged in a shootout.

The state Police Command has yet to react to the reported cases of cult-related activities.

However, several members of the vigilance outfit, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the killing of their member by suspected cultists.

Recall that last Sunday night, June 1, 2025, a taxi driver identified as Barnabas was shot dead by suspected cultists at his house by Echue Street, Mile 2 Diobu.

The previous Friday, May 30, 2025, factional members of the same cult group took control of the ever-busy Education Bus Stop along Ikwerre Road in the state capital, where they engaged in a shootout for over 15 minutes.

Earlier, a member of one of the Deygbam cult factions, identified as Ishie, was killed at the Railway axis, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt, on Saturday, May 10.
