…Commends NITDA for intervention
The first lady of Cross River State, Rev. Eyoanwan Otu, has hailed the collaboration between the Renewed Hope Initiative and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), saying its aim to equip ICT centers, like the one at the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), to empower women and girls through technology is a laudable feat.
Speaking at the commissioning event, Nigeria’s first lady, Olumeri Tinubu, who was represented by Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, the wife of the Senate President, stated that the establishment of the ICT Centre is a significant step towards enhancing educational opportunities and technological advancement in Cross River State for women in line with prevailing realities.
She further praised the proactiveness of Mrs. Tinubu and NITDA for the initiative, which she said will be a potential to bridge the gap between the government, industry and academia, fostering research and innovation in ICT.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr.Justin Beshel, highlighted the importance of ICT in education and entrepreneurship, emphasising the role of the Digital Economy Centre in shaping the future workforce.
The handover ceremony, attended by wives of federal legislators and various dignitaries, celebrated the achievement and underscores the importance of technology in education and economic development.
Afterwards , Rev. Otu proceeded to The College of Health Technology, to commission a solar and free internet Infrastructure for students of the institution that will aid the ease of study and access to uninterrupted power and internet connection.
