The Cross River Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Igbo, has denied that Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended law faculty dean, was kidnapped.

Ugbo in a statement with reference number A2:5750/CRS/PPRO/VOL.17/220 and issued on Thursday and made available the journalists in Calabar, disclosed that Ndifon was not kidnapped as speculated but arrested by a Government Security agency for discreet interrogation.

The statement read in part: “We commend Cross Riverians/good spirited Citizens, media, and eminent Security Stakeholders for the confidence reposed on the officers and men of the Cross River State Police Command, and. Nigeria Police Force at large through resolute and seamless collaborative efforts and sacrifices in securing our dear State.

“The Command hereby advice members of the public to disregard this information currently trending in social media platform, as it is not only subversive but misleading and a calculated attempt to cause panic or breach of the peace enjoyed in the State.
“In view of the above, the Command wish to state that Prof. Ndifon was not kidnapped as speculated but arrested by a Government Security agency for discreet interrogation while measures are being taken to review the source of this obnoxious rumors.”

Earlier today, the family of Prof Ndifon had raised an alarm that their bread-winner was whisked away by gun-trotting men at the wee hours of Thursday.

A call put across the Ndifon mobile phone, as at the time of sending this report, rang severally and it was not returned.
