Executive Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area, Theresa Ushie, has praised Governor Bassey Edet Otu for what she called a “historic milestone” over efforts in restoring electricity to the Local Government Area.

In a statement issued from the Council Secretariat in Abuochiche, Ushie commended the Governor’s leadership, describing his intervention as a bold step that aligns with his “People First” mandate.

“For over a decade, the good people of Bekwarra have endured darkness—not just physically, but also economically, as the lack of electricity hindered community development. Today, we celebrate a new dawn,” the chairman said.

Ushie emphasized that the restoration of electricity is already generating positive changes across communities, reviving small businesses and bringing renewed optimism among residents.

“This is not just about light returning to our homes; it’s about rekindling hope, empowering small businesses, improving security, and paving the way for industrial and digital growth in our local communities.

““His Excellency has shown us that governance is about results. His compassion, vision, and courage to tackle long-standing challenges reflect the kind of leadership our communities need,” she said.

She also called on the people of Bekwarra to unite in support of the state government’s policies and initiatives aimed at driving inclusive development.

“On behalf of the entire Bekwarra people—our traditional rulers, youth, women, and elders—I say thank you, Your Excellency. You have written your name in gold in the hearts of our people,” she concluded.

According to her, the return of electricity to Bekwarra is expected to unlock opportunities in education, commerce, and healthcare, marking a significant turning point in the LGA’s socio-economic development.
