The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two of the perpetrators of the mayhem unleashed on the Nta community in Ikom LGA of Cross River State.
The incident which occurred last weekend lead to the murder of three people and at least ten houses set ablaze.
Two of those killed were Rejoice Nton Anoka, 10, and a student, Mariam Akanya Mfono, 20.
The third was identified as a Tiv, who was visiting the community as at the time of the incident.
The divisional police officer in Ikom, Teryim Anthony confirmed that they were able to pick up the two suspects and more suspects will be arrested as investigation continues.
The suspects whose names have not been disclosed have been moved to the state’s police headquarters in Diamond Hill Calabar where they are presently detained and interrogated.
Survivors and other Nta community elders, including Chief Assi Njan Batta, His Highness Livinus Mfono Nton as well as the youths president, Agbor Nkoro Mgbang also appeared before the police in Calabar where they narrated their ordeals in the hands of their attackers, the Mbembe people of Obubra LGA.
The communal clash which lead to the unfortunate incident last weekend has persisted between the people of Ofunokpan in Mbembe tribe in Obubra LGA and Nta community in Ikom LGA, both in central part of the state.
