From Jude Chinedu, Enugu

The traditional ruler-elect of Mburumbu ancient kingdom in Nkanu East Local Government Area, Enugu State, Dr. Onuokaibe, has praised Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for transforming the state’s security landscape, describing Enugu as a model of safety for other states.

Dr. Onuokaibe, who is the CEO of First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company made this known while addressing journalists in Enugu yesterday.

He added that the governor’s bold and strategic approach to insecurity had made the state safer, revived business confidence and encouraged social life.

He said: “Before now, Enugu was in serious danger. People were afraid to move around after dark. Businesses shut down early, and there was tension everywhere. But Mbah didn’t waste time.

“He went straight to the root of the problem, brought in technology, increased the number of security operatives and restored confidence.”

According to him, patrol vans equipped with smart cameras, aerial surveillance using drones and rapid response by security agents are now visible across the state.

He pointed out that areas previously known for criminal activity, especially the Nike-Ugwogo-Opi Road, which had gained notoriety for kidnappings, are now safe for travellers.

He also highlighted the governor’s handling of the Monday sit-at-home order, which once crippled the local economy.

“That Monday lockdown almost destroyed the state. Schools were shut, markets closed and people lived in fear. But Mbah took firm action. Today, life is back, people go to work, markets open and Enugu is thriving.

“Young people are out again. Restaurants are busy. People from across the country are visiting Enugu on weekends and they feel safe doing so. Personally, I brought my real estate business back here because I can see where the state is headed.

“Nobody wants to invest in a place that’s not secure. But now, with Enugu’s revenue crossing N144 billion by the end of 2024, it’s obvious that investors are regaining confidence. That’s the result of strong security and visionary leadership,” he said.

Dr. Onuokaibe also commended the governor for the numerous ongoing infrastructure projects, stressing that such developments would not be possible without a stable security environment.

He called on residents to support the governor’s efforts by staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity.
