A Senior Pastor of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Wuse II, Abuja,Nashon Azaki has denied allegation of sexual misconduct.

Azaki, in a  phone conversation, yesterday, claimed that the allegations against him were baseless and the aggrieved members of the church were pursuing their self interest.

“The members were asked to present their evidence. They could not produce anything. The church has addressed the matter.

“They reported me to the church. The church looked into it and they were not genuine. They want to resort to media trial now. I wonder why they keep doing this. The allegation is false.

“They wrote to the headquarters in Jos and the headquarters has responded to that and the matter was addressed to the congregation.

But members of the church, in a petition by their legal counsel, George Ogunyomi, insisted that the pastor was being shielded by some powerful forces.

Ogunyomi expressed outrage over the leadership’s failure to take action against Azaki, who is accused of sexual harassment and financial misconduct.

According to him, the delay in addressing these serious allegations has led many within the congregation to question the integrity of the church, both locally and globally.

The crisis began in early January 2025, when concerned church members submitted a petition to ECWA Headquarters calling for Rev. Azaki’s removal due to the accusations against him.

In the letter, sent on February 3, 2025, Ogunyomi accused the pastor of breaching ECWA’s ethical guidelines and criticized the leadership for allowing him to remain in his position despite the mounting evidence of his misconduct.

The Concerned members noted that ECWA’s integrity has taken a significant hit, and many now believe the leadership’s refusal to act is motivated by favoritism rather than a commitment to the values the church claims to uphold.

“The time for action is now,” said the concerned members. “The ECWA Executive must rise to the occasion, reaffirm its commitment to its principles, and take decisive action to resolve this crisis. Only then can ECWA maintain its mission and global reputation.

“ Azaki, who is under investigation by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), continues to lead one of ECWA’s largest congregations while on administrative bail.

“Critics have pointed out that a person facing criminal allegations of this magnitude would not be allowed to hold a position in government or public service, yet the church’s leadership has failed to remove him.”
