Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has elected Mr. Innocent Chinyere Ohagwa as the President-elect of the Institute. This was done at an extraordinary meeting of the Governing Council of the Institute, held on Thursday, 1st May, 2025. 
By this election, Mr. Ohagwa will succeed the incumbent President, Mr. Samuel Olushola Agbeluyi, whose two-year tenure comes to an end on 4th June 2025 as the 17th President. A statement from the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Institute, Mrs. Afolake Oso, confirms this.
Mr. Ohagwa, who is the current Vice President and Chairman of the Finance and General-Purpose Committee of the Institute is an experienced tax administrator with over 35 years’ experience retiring after an illustrious career at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as the Coordinating Director, Support Services Group.
Mr. Innocent Chinyere Ohagwa has been an active member of the Institute since being admitted as Associate Member in the year 1990 and was admitted as a fellow in 1999.
He has served as facilitator at various times during the Institute organised Mandatory Professional Training Programme (MPTP), Workshops and Seminars.
He was elected a member of the Governing Council of the Institute in June 2013 and has served in various capacities until his recent election, including: Chairman, Publicity and Publication Committee; Vice Chairman, Nigeria Taxation Standard Board; Chairman, Investigation Panel; Chairman, Project Committee; Honorary Treasurer, June 2019 – June 2021; Deputy Vice President/Chairman of Joint District Societies, June 2021 – June 2023.
Other positions to his credit are: Vice President/Chairman of Finance and General Purposes Committee, June 2023 – June 2025. At the African regional level, Mr. Ohagwa was re-elected as the Honorary Treasurer of the West African Union of Tax Institutes (WAUTI) in February 2025, having previously served a two-year tenure from February 2023 to February 2025.
Mr. Ohagwa who is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), USA and also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the prestigious University of Lagos, Akoka and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Bayero University, Kano.
He has attended several training programmes within and outside Nigeria, including Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Massachusetts, USA. The investiture ceremony of the President-elect comes up on 14th June 2025.
