Authorities say 32 who survived have been hospitalised
An Azerbaijan Airlines plane flying from Azerbaijan to Russia with 69 people on board crashed in Aktau, Kazakhstan on Wednesday.
International media reports reveal that the aircraft with flight number J2-8243 had to make an emergency landing about 3km (1.8 miles) from Aktau.
According to health officials and medical workers, at least four bodies have been found and many more are feared dead, including the two pilots.
No less than 32 passengers survived and have been hospitalised, as revealed by the Prosecutor General’s Office in Azerbaijan.
“We cannot disclose any investigation results at this time. All possible scenarios are being examined, and the necessary expert analyses are underway.
“An investigative team, led by the deputy prosecutor general of Azerbaijan, has been dispatched to Kazakhstan and is working at the crash site,” it shared.
Russian news agency Interfax reported that the ministry disclosed that there may be more survivors, quoting medical workers at the scene as saying that four bodies have been recovered.
It was also revealed that the blaze had been put out by fire services and that 150 emergency workers were at the crash site.
Reporting from Moscow, Al Jazeera’s Yulia Shapovalova said: “According to preliminary reports, the plane requested landing at an alternative airport before the accident … due to heavy fog in Grozny.”
