The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has charged its newly inducted members to channel their energies and expertise towards the economic growth and development of the country.

In his address at the 22nd induction of members into the Graduate and Membership Cadre, President/Chairman of Council of the Institute, Mr Taiwo ’Gbenga Owokalade, who gave this charge maintained that professionals such as ICSAN’s members in any society are the catalysts of development who, through their services nurture economic progress, growth and national prosperity by the effective use of their expertise.

“It is incumbent on the professionals to channel their energies into building strong and thriving public and private sectors institutions to enable the nation to realise her economic growth and sustainable development. Therefore you must show professionalism and expertise expected of a Governance Professional and be good ambassadors of the Institute” he charged.

In her induction lecture, the Chief Executive Officer, International Packaging Industry, Ifeyinwa Essien-Akpan, urged the new members to pursue excellence in every sphere of their endeavour for themselves and Nigeria at large.

Essien-Akpan who is a consultant on governance matters added that without excellence, no one can thrive in the heightened competitive business environment. “We must pursue excellence in all we do, that is the way to go in the business world”

Giving charge to the inductees, the Deputy Registrar (Academics) of the Institute, Oladunni Ogunsulire, advised them to continue working hard in pursuit of further professional development, especially in the acquisition of relevant skills, knowledge, and competencies within the ambits of the focal points of the Institute, viz, Corporate Secretarial Practice, Corporate Governance and Management and Public Administration.

Ogunsulire urged them to maintain the virtues of discipline, responsibility and professionalism at all times. “You are welcomed into the Chartered Secretaries and Governance Practice. You must show profound expertise in the field of Corporate Governance and allied disciplines.

“You must not forget the Mandatory Continuous Professional Education (MCPE) as a continuous learning; it is a platform for acquiring knowledge on trending issues in the profession,” she charged.
