Three serving senators from Kebbi State-Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South)-all elected on People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform, have officially declared their intention to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

The senators, accompanied by Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Idris and other APC leaders, are set to formalise their defection, which is seen as a significant political shift in Kebbi State, potentially weakening the PDP’s presence there.

Also present at the meeting were Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu; and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu.

The defection of the three senators is anticipated to significantly strengthen the APC’s hold in Kebbi State and enhance its representation in the National Assembly, positioning the party more favorably for upcoming legislative and executive endeavors. This move is expected to weaken the PDP’s influence in the state, consolidating APC’s dominance ahead of future elections.
