The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has urged the staff to do more towards delivering on the mandate of the agency.
Director of Research (Training, and Strategic Planning), Adebowale Adedokin, gave this admonition while addressing participants at a rigorous training aimed at equipping officers with essential procurement skills across to improve efficiency and transparency in Nigeria’s public procurement system.
The training had a primary goal of educating them on the consequences of mismanagement and corruption in procurement processes. He noted that over 7000 officers drawn from the 36 states of the federation had participated in the training since 2008, and urged them to apply their new skills to improve procurement processes, reduce delays, and support government objectives.
The five-week training, which includes two weeks of pre-training assignments and three weeks of intensive residential sessions, is a foundational step in providing participants with the knowledge of sustainable, modern procurement practices.
In his remarks, Adedokin said the training would help the government to deliver on its promises faster, and explained that the programme aids collaboration with agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) to further reinforce the importance of compliance and accountability that will help protect government resources and leads to faster and more efficient project delivery, ultimately benefiting citizens.
