•Troops raid bandits’ hideout in Plateau, kill one

The Nigerian Army said troops of Operation Hadin Kai, has repelled a coordinated attack by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Damboa town in Borno State, killing 26 members of the terrorists.

The attack, which took place in the early hours of Thursday 23 May 2025, led to the death of two soldiers.

The acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations in charge of 7 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Jingina, who made this known, said the ISWAP terrorists launched a fierce attack on the Azir Bridge axis in 25 Task Force Brigade area of responsibility.

According to him, the troops of the Nigerian Army responded with counter attacks; and artillery fire and airstrikes were carried out by the Air component of Operation Hadin Kai, thereby mounting a robust defence that resulted in the neutralisation of at least 16 ISWAP fighters.

“Sadly during the attacks, two brave soldiers paid the supreme price in line of duty,” Jingina said.

In a related development, troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven have raided a bandit hideout at Teng Village in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one of the bandits.

During the raid,  the troops overwhelmed the criminals and forced them to retreat in disarray.

In the exchange of fire, one bandit was neutralised while traces of blood along their withdrawal routes indicates that some of the fleeing bandits sustained gunshot wounds.

Troops exploited the hideout and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and 11 rounds of 7.62 mm (special) ammunition.  The recovered arms and ammunition are in the custody of troops, it was gathered.
