Explosion from Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) have killed nine people in a restive town in Borno State.
The IEDs exploded amid a crowded traders and community members selling and buying assorted consumables near a tree at Mairari, Guzamala Local Government in the northern parr of Borno on Saturday.
The incident which occurred at about 11am was not immediately known in Maiduguri, the state capital until Sunday due to the remoteness of the area and poor communication.
Sources said victims were mostly groundnut, water, soft drink sellers among others. Nine died in the explosion and one of the injured persons also died on the way to the hospital.
Speaker of Borno State House of Assembly, Hon Abdulkarim Lawan who hails from the area, conformed the incident to journalists.
Guzamala is one of the two local governments still faced with dire insecurity, as the government is unable to resettle hundreds of displaced persons. The other is Abadam Local Government.
