Boko Haram terrorists have attacked an Army base at a border town in Borno State, causing major destruction and deaths.
Daily Sun gathered that the terrorists stormed the Army base at New Marte, Sunday night, shooting indiscriminately.
Sources said the troops also responded with firepower as gun battle raged for almost two hours, forcing many residents to flee the town and moved towards Dikwa, 30 kilometers away from the scene of the fight.
Four Soldiers were feared dead , while some of the terrorists were also gun down. A survivor said the attack started at about 1am and continued for almost two hours , adding that dozens of residents were injured during the pandemonium that broke out during the gun duel.
The latest attack underscores the fragile security situation in the Northeast state which faces nearly 15 years of terror attacks.
New Matte, headquarters of Marte LG is located on the Western coast of Lake Chad, along the Nigeria border with Chad Republic.
The town was captured by Boko Haram in 2014 and liberated by the Nigerian military in 2015. It has faced frequent attacks and raids by Boko Haram insurgents, including last year killing of some police personnel deployed to the area.
