A group of professionals, under the aegis of Bokkos Local Government Like Minds Association, has strongly condemned what it described as “the despicable attacks that a group of Fulani herdsmen continues to commit in various parts of Bokkos Local Government Area and some parts of Mangu and Barkin Ladi local government areas, which resulted to loss of lives and many injured, while properties were burnt, looted and many people displaced from their ancestral homes on December 23, 2023.”
The association, in a statement signed by President Dr. Silas Titus Nguwap and Chairman of the Community, Mr Musa Gayus Ngyak, said they’re horrified by the recent massacre perpetrated on Kambar Peli, Ndun, Ngyong, Tahore, Chirang, Sanyang, Tuje, Sundul, Mai Yaanga, Mutfet, Ndares, Bodel, Yalya Nono, Butura Company, Gawarza-Mangor communities in Bokkos local government area.
The association reiterated its full solidarity with the people and government of Bokkos local government area and expressed its deep sympathy to the families of the victims, while expressing its commitment to continue working with the local government council and other stakeholders towards the mobilisation of the required support for lasting peace in the local government area.
“The president of the association appeals for calm and unity to the entire local government area, to defeat the marauders, whose agenda is to inflict fear, cause havoc, destruction, economic hardship and deaths.
“While we comment on the efforts of the security personnel, we call on them to redouble their efforts especially in information sharing, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
“In view of this, we call on the government to deploy additional security personnel to the entire communities in the local government area, to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens.
“Mobilise resources to provide humanitarian aid, shelter, and assistance to those displaced by these tragic events.
“Enhance the coordination of inter-local government boundary response, given the increasing threat that the terrorist group and terrorism, in general, pose to the local governments, the state and the country’s peace and security.
“The association frowns at the arrest of victims defending their communities. We call on the government to release victims arrested and detained while defending themselves.”
