The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, has met with Professor Gunter Pauli, a Belgian expert, to discuss possibilities in Nigeria’s Blue Economy project. 

The meeting held in Abuja over the weekend,  was a follow up to the session the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, had with Professor Pauli, on the need for NIMASA DG to meet with experts like Gunter Pauli for economic boost.

The NIMASA boss had during the meeting, noted that having Professor Pauli interface with stakeholders of the new Ministry would definitely help develop viable policies for the smooth take-off of the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry.

“I had the opportunity to meet the man that formulated the global policies around Blue Economy, and we have discussed various ways to harness the resources in the Nigerian waters in a sustainable manner.  He has expressed his willingness to work with the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to formulate policies to help Nigerians enjoy the gains of the establishment of the Ministry’’.

For his part, Gunter Pauli, said he will be willing to assist the Nigerian Government to develop policies around Blue Economy for the good of Nigerians. Prof. Pauli, an economist and entrepreneur, created models of Blue Economy, which has now  become a global concept.  He has worked with many countries to draw policies for their blue economies development.
