A businessman, Mr. Obioma Nwogu, has cried to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to save him from a political bigwig in FESTAC Town, Lagos, who had allegedly threatened to kill him.
Nwogu also alleged that the politician, Dipo, and his thugs beat him up and stole his money and other personal effects.
Nwogu, who spoke through his solicitor, Richard Kelani of A.A. Oneyibo and Co., said: “Our client and his attackers belong to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area. The attack on him stemmed from his staunch stand for truth and justice in the running of the affairs of the party in the LGA, which did not go down well with Dipo and Abiola, both of whom wanted to hijack the party apparatus in defiance of the democratic ideals on which the party in the LGA is founded.
“Prior to the attack, Mr. Ayanwu, one of the party leaders in the LGA, had informed our client that one Abiola had called him to ask him to warn our client that, if he did not desist from his objections to their moves, he (Abiola) and Dipo would get ‘boys’ to beat our client up at the next meeting of the party at LGA level. This threat was made known to our client sometime in November 2018.
“ On Thursday, January 10, 2019, our client was coming out of a meeting when he sighted Lawal and Moses in company with 10 hefty-looking young men coming towards him while he was exchanging greetings with others. Upon arriving the position where our client was speaking with Mr. Adewale and Dele, Lawal pushed him aside, and engaged Dele in conversation. Simultaneously with this act, our client received a blow to the side of his face and the next thing he knew, he was on the ground and the 10 men started beating him, warning him to stop opposing their principal’s political moves. They promised to kill him.
“Our client is now living in fear for his life and no longer feels safe to sleep in his home as he has been informed that the said Dipo and Abiola’s men are still on the lookout for him with the intention of concluding their mission of killing our client. We want you to urgently intervene in this matter by bringing perpetuators of this criminal act against our clientto face the full weight of the law.”.
In his reaction, Dipo said: “Mr. Nwogu is looking for cheap popularity. I have no hand in his attack, if at all he was attacked. I am too busy to listen to trivial issues. I will sue him for defamation of character, if he drags my name in the mud. Tell him that I am too serious to think of people like him.”
