When it comes to the art of business and philanthropy, Nigerian billionaire energy magnate, Benedict Peters stands out. For Peters, the self-effacing Chairman of AITEO Group, one of the largest indigenous oil producers in Nigeria, his contributions to the human capital development across Africa are very huge.
And his sole motive is to create social value. Through various initiatives, 56 year-old Peters has demonstrated his commitment by providing scholarships and training opportunities for young people in Nigeria and several other African countries. In addition, the Delta State-born billionaire has also made significant strides in sports development as he has sponsored the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and the country’s national teams.
In fact, his AITEO became the title sponsor of the Confederation of African Football annual award event, the CAF Awards in 2017. In recognition of this outstanding contributions to sports and human capital development across Africa through his nearly three decades’ successful business leadership in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, Peters — one of Nigeria’s richest billionaires who has been away from Nigeria for the past seven years— is set to receive the African Philanthropist Award at the African Heritage Concert and Awards scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, on April 1.
The Pan-African awards recognition event is organized by Heritage Times and it’s to foster and promote Africa’s rich culture of excellence, as well as to celebrate the distinguished accomplishments of prominent Africans all over the world. Under Peters’ visionary leadership, AITEO Group has made significant contributions to the growth and development of Africa’s petroleum industry. The company’s strategic investments in exploration, production, and infrastructure have led to the creation of a diversified portfolio of assets across the continent. His AITEO Eastern E&P Company Limited (AEEPC) is one of Nigeria’s largest indigenous oil exploration firms. With an annual production capacity of over 90,000 barrels, AEEPC has been instrumental in the growth of Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
