Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, has been bestowed with the award of ‘Great Liberator of Our Days’ by Igbo Youths Movement (IYM).
The award is for his zeal in the fight for self- determination of Biafran people.
The award was given to Kanu, who is presently in detention, during the 17th Annual Convention of the IYM.
A statement jointly signed by National Coordinator, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe and the Media and Publicity Officer of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful, described Kanu “as a man who destroyed the falsehood in Nigeria with the truth without metallic bullets and bombs.
“His determination, resoluteness and truthfulness towards the liberation of his people accorded him the honour and respect among the youths across the world.”
According to the group, “This (the award) proves that Kanu, IPOB leader and director of Radio Biafra remains a man of the masses even while in detention.
“IPOB family members worldwide, promise to restore Biafra through a peaceful means because it is a divine project from Chukwuokike Abiama (God Almighty) which no human being can stop.
“The killing, torture, intimidation and arrest of Biafrans cannot stop our resolve towards the restoration of God’s projects,” Onwudiwe and Powerful stated.
Meanwhile, IPOB has warned that no family member of IPOB will accept any dime from Governor Willie Obiano or any other Nigerian politician for the alleged treatment of those injured during the May 30 Biafra Day celebration.
“Every injured Biafran or Niger Delta Avenger injured in this quest for justice IPOB will pay the hospital bill from contributions from family members all over the world.
“We don’t want any politician to contribute to the treatment of those they ordered to be shot at sight. Let no family member of IPOB accept any dime from Obiano or any other Nigerian politician.
“IPOB is equal to every task laid before it.”
“Moreso, we thank all the medical doctors and nurses in Biafraland for their courage and support during the remembrance day celebration of their help to resuscitate our members who were felled by Army bullets, please go ahead and treat them we are aware of your bills,” he stated.
