The military has released 75 persons mostly women and children rescued from Boko Haram major enclaves during operations in the northeast to Borno State government.
Theatre Commander Joint Task Force (JTF) North-East Operation Operation Hadin Kai, Maj Gen Waidi Shuaibu disclosed during the handing over of the rescued persons to the officials of Borno government on Monday in Maiduguri.
Shuaibu represented by the Deputy Commander, Brig Gen Anthony Okpodu, explained that persons were rescued by troops in key terrorist enclaves at Sambisa, Ukuba, Njimia, Sabil Huda, Garin, Garin Falluja, and Gobara.
According to him, the persons rescued diring the offensive tagged Operation Desert Sanity, include seven adult males, 34 women, and 34 children.
“The operation significantly
degraded enemy capabilities by neutralizing insurgents, destroying command and logistics bases, makeshift shelters, weapon caches, and IED-making materials, thereby disrupting their life-supporting structures,” he disclosed.
He said the 75 persons were abducted by terrorists at different period. He said the military has provided medical support,clothing and foods to them.
The theatre intelligence head also explained that the rescued persons have been profiled, urging community members to accept them.
Representative of Borno Ministry of Wor omen Affairs and Director Women Affairs, Aishatu Shettima, commended the military for sustaining offensive against terrorists and rescuing innocent civilians.
