Boko Haram has attacked a community near Chibok, Borno’s volatile town, looting some foodstuff.

Residents of Chibok said some Boko Haram insurgents on motorcycles stormed Gatamarwa village near Chibok on Thursday at about 5 pm and opened fire.

“The insurgents were shooting sporadically in the village and this forced many of the villagers to flee into the bushes,” a resident of Chibok told our correspondent on phone.

Sources said the insurgents who came through Askira, a Borno southern town, looted foodstuff and carted away some livestock too. The insurgents held sway in the community until the arrival of military troops from nearby Chibok and Askira-Uba.

Borno State Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu, confirmed the attack to journalists but did not give further details. He said he was yet to receive details of the attack from his men in the area.

Gatamwarwa is about 19 kilometres from Chibok town. The area was attacked twice in November and December last year.
