American actor and rapper Will Smith is set to make a comeback to the stage at the 2024 BET Awards ceremony scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 30.
The development comes following Smith’s cameo appearance with J Balvin at the Coachella festival in April, where he thrilled the crowd in his ‘Men In Black’ costume.
Speaking on the star’s return to the stage at the 2024 BET Awards, Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET had nothing but praise for the music veteran.
“From his start as a rapper to The Fresh Prince to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honored to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage.
“We look forward to Will adding to yet another defining night for the culture that is not to be missed.” Variety quoted Orlando as saying.
The BET Awards will be broadcast live on Sunday via the network at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Returning as the host of the event will be Hollywood star Taraji P. Henson, with Grammy-winning singer Usher set to be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement BET Award.
Since Will Smith’s infamous incident at the 2022 Oscars where he slapped comedian Chris Rock, the actor has mostly garnered backlash from fans.
His cameo appearance at this year’s Coachella turned out to be brief but memorable.
