The Benue State government has distributed food and non food relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs), schools with special needs and rehabilitation centres in the state.

The Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), Sir James Iorpuu, who spoke to newsmen during the monthly distribution of relief materials on Monday in Makurdi, said the state now has 17 official IDPs camps.

He said the state has added three camps in Ukum Local Government Area, (LGA), following the ongoing banditry activities and herders attacks in the area.

He said they were distributing relief materials to 17 camps, Schools with Special Needs Aliade and Vandiekya and the rehabilitation centre at Apir.

The items include 4,200 bags of 25kg rice, 2,810 25kg bags of beans, 2,870 bags of garri, 4,155 cartons of noodles, 324 gallons of groundnut oil, and 191 gallons of red oil, 423 cartons of Maggi, 363 bags of salt, and 266 bags of sugar.

The SEMA boss explained that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has also sent 600 pieces of wrappers, 300 men’s wears, 150 pieces of mattresses, 300 children’s wears, 200 cooking pot and 200 blanket for distribution.

He said NEMA also sent a truck of cement and planks for the construction of toilets across the camps in the state.

He said the all distribution and transportation of all relief materials would be carried out during the day time to avoid the security issues that was experienced the last time.
