Former Commissioner for Finance in Benue State Hon David Olofu has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His resignation was contained in a letter titled “Notice of Resignation from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP,” addressed to the Ward Chairman of PDP in Edikwu Ward 2.

Olofu, who is from Opaha, Edikwu Ward 2 in Apa Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, said his resignation from the party was to exercise his right to freedom of association.

According to him, his movement is also for the good of his ward, his local government, his senatorial district, and that of Benue State at large.

The letter, which he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Makurdi, read, “I write to inform you of my resignation as a member of the PDP with effect from today, 30th June 2025.

“This decision has become necessary as I move to exercise my right to freedom of association enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the interest of Edikwu Ward 2, Apa Local Government Area, Benue South Senatorial District, and indeed Benue State.”

Our correspondent reports that Olofu served as Commissioner for Finance in Benue State under the immediate past Governor, Chief Samuel Ortom, from 2015 to 2023.

He was also Chairman of the Forum of State Commissioners for Finance in Nigeria from 2019 to 2023 and Senior Technical Adviser to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum from 2023 to 2024.
