A notable Northern group, Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has postponed an event scheduled to mark and celebrate President Bola Tinubu’s achievements in two years of office.
The event, according to a statement by the Convener of ATT, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, was to hold in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, but was postponed due to recent escalating security challenges in the State.
According to Yakubu, “We write to apologise for the postponement of the event that was scheduled to take place on June 18/19, 2025 in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
“We planned and organised to mark and celebrate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s achievements in two years of office, where the Benue State governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia was to host the occasion.
“However, the event was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control. We had been planning for this event for months and had put in a lot of effort to make sure that it would be a success.
“Unfortunately, due to escalating cases of insecurity in the State, we had to make the difficult decision to postpone it.
“We understand that this may have caused our invited guests a great deal of frustration and disappointment.
We would like to express our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this might have caused them, especially, the Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Chairman of the occasion and former President of the Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim, the Guest Speaker, Prof. Attahiru Jega, the SGF, George Akume, the host governor, Rev. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the elderstatesman, Chief Bisi Akande, North Central States governors, amongst others that are not mentioned here.
We are doing our best to reschedule the event as soon as possible and will keep all our guests updated on any further development.
We also want to seize this opportunity to express special gratitude to our host governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia for the immense support he accorded us in the course of planning for this event before the unfortunate postphonment. It is our prayer that the enemies of peace will suffer the consequences of their actions, if not on earth, definitely before the Almighty God.
We therefore wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families whose loved ones were killed in the unfortunate incident. May God grant all the deceased eternal rest.
Once again, we tender our unreserved apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused all our invited distinguished guests and well wishers.
