• Umahi commends Diri’s administration

The re-election bid of Governor of Bayelsa State and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has brightened with his endorsement by the Bayelsa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Council of Islamic Affairs in the state.

The two groups during a meeting with Diri at Government House, Yenagoa commended the PDP government for its performance in the past three years.

Speaking on behalf of the two groups, the state Chairman of CAN, Rev. Father Joseph Opelema, and his Council for Islamic Affairs counterpart, Alhaji Yakubu Otobo, said the Christian and Muslim Communities have jointly resolved to give their full support for the re-election of the Governor and his Deputy to ensure continuity of the prosperity agenda in Bayelsa State.

The two leaders said the visit was informed by the positive testimonials of the Governor Douye Diri-led administration and to let the leaders know that the joint council was fully behind the re-election of the governor and his deputy.

They remarked that they had seen the direction the state was going, and would do everything within their powers to ensure the continuity and consolidation of the present administration in the state.

“We have come to let you know that our joint councils are behind the prosperity government. We are ready to work with you in any area where you need our support.

“The Christian and Muslim community, comprising all the Muslims and Christians in the state have resolved to work for the reelection of Governor Douye Diri and the Deputy Governor. We are going to do everything within our power to ensure the continuity and consolidation of the administration in Bayelsa State.

Responding, Governor Diri who was represented by his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, appreciated his visitors for their kind words of encouragement and support.

He commended the Minister of Works, Chief Umahi for his development strides in Ebonyi State and expressed readiness to work closely with the federal government in building critical infrastructures in the state such as roads and the Agge Seaport

He urged them to stand for the truth at all times for speaking the obvious truth and refrain from isolating themselves from politics for them to contribute to the progress of society.

Meanwhile, in another development, the Minister for Works, Chief Dave Umahi has expressed delight at the level of development in Bayelsa within the last three years.

Umahi who was in the state on a working visit commended Diri and his deputy for making him and others proud for their various roles in ensuring Senator Diri’s victory under the People’s Democratic Party.

According to Umahi, “First, let me confess that we couldn’t recognize Bayelsa when we came in. When we came to conduct your election, this place was really looking like a village. But today, the story has changed. I don’t regret the role I played when I was with you in PDP.

“You have done extremely very well. May God bless you. This is what we are talking about, after the election, people should actually settle down to work for development and ensure good governance. That the moment elections are over, we should forget about our parties and work for the good of the citizenry.
