An accident at the popular PDP junction along the Isaac Boro Expressway over the weekend has claimed the life of a truck conductor who was trying to avoid sustaining injuries.
According to investigations, the driver of the truck who was driving at top speed was said to have lost control while trying to dodge a commercial tricycle carrying some female passengers.
The deceased, according to an eye-witness account, jumped from the truck to avoid potential injury when he got trapped after the truck tumbled.
He was crushed to death while the truck which was carrying diesel spilt its contents on the road causing traffic gridlock.
Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who got to the scene shortly after the accident, helped to remove the body of the deceased from the scene.
One of those at the scene said the accident could have claimed more lives if the truck had not been prevented by the perimeter fence of the outfit, South-Coast Lounge and Bar from, ramming into the petrol station.
The tricycle rider, Mr Melvin Godnews, who survived the accident said it happened too fast for him to even think of what to do.
“I was slowing down and waiting for a tanker to turn when suddenly the truck rammed into us. All I can remember is that my Keke tumbled, and I just saw tyres up. Thank God because if the truck had hit the tanker, it would have killed all of us because I was carrying three passengers. Three of them sustained various degrees of injuries.”
Meanwhile the Federation of International Female Lawyers (FIDA), has rescued a toddler who is a victim of several bites from his biological father.
Investigations revealed that some people concerned about the condition of the little boy had raised an alarm and contacted FIDA to rescue the boy.
Findings indicated that the mother of the boy was separated from his father, leaving the lad in the custody of the father who had been biting the boy for no just cause.
Asked why the boy had bites on his body, the father was said to have pleaded for forgiveness, stating that he bit the boy out of frustration.
The Chairperson of FIDA, Bayelsa State chapter, Deme Debra Pamosso, who confirmed the development, said the boy’s auntie had been contacted in Abuja to come take custody of the child while the father was arrested by the police.
