The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Wisdom Benoie, for allegedly raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter in Yalwan Tsakani, Bauchi.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at about 0200 hours, local youths confronted Benoie after suspecting him of secretly molesting the victim, identified as Joy (not her real name). The victim’s father reported the matter to the Operation Restore Peace (ORP) unit in the Yelwan Tsakani area, prompting swift action.

Operatives of ORP, led by CSP Kim Abert, intervened to avert mob justice based on credible intelligence. Preliminary investigations revealed that Benoie, who married the victim’s mother (name withheld), had allegedly been sexually assaulting the teenager on multiple occasions while her mother was asleep, entering her room to engage in non-consensual acts.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet investigation, after which Benoie will be charged to court for prosecution.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security while ensuring justice for all victims of oppression.
