The Kuyasi Awuse Family of Onigbongbo, Ikeja, Lagos State, has strongly denied allegations linking it to acts of malicious destruction of property, forgery, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

In a letter dated April 16, 2025, and addressed to the Aminatu Ilubamito Family of Onigbongbo, Maryland, Lagos, the  family, through its legal representative, Yinka Muyiwa, described the allegations as false, baseless, and misleading.

The letter was a direct response to a petition submitted by the Ilubamito family to Lagos State Governor,Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Inspector General of Police.

The Ilubamito family had alleged that some members of Awuse family were involved in illegal activities surrounding properties located at  713, Iya Oloye Crescent, Ismail Estate, Idiroko, Onigbongbo, as well as numbers: 291, 293, 295, and 297, Ikorodu Road, Idiroko Bus Stop, Onigbongbo, Maryland.

The petition, which was reportedly circulated in the media, accused the Awuse family of engaging in malicious damage, forcible entry, forgery, and fraudulent conversion of the said properties.

In their rebuttal, the Awuse family maintained that none of its members had ever engaged in such unlawful conduct. They also emphasized that there is no subsisting court judgment against their claim or interest in the disputed properties, contrary to the portrayal by the Ilubamito family.

“Our clients have exercised restraint in taking legal action against your clients, not out of weakness or lack of entitlement, but due to the familial ties, your clients being a sub-branch of the Iluobi Family, which in turn is a descendant of the Kuyasi Awuse lineage,” the letter read.

The family further warned that continued publication of what it described as “false and mischievous” reports in the media would leave them with no option but to seek legal redress.

“If this false narrative continues in the press and on radio, we shall be left with no other option than to approach the court for adjudication of your clients’ false claims and misleading representations,” the statement added.
