Avon Medical Practice is set to launch its 25-bed facility in Lagos as a move to boost health services and job creation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Avon Medical Practice, Akinbiyi Oke, who made the disclosure yesterday during a press briefing, said the facility—which will be launched on Monday, April 14—is a multi-specialist provider headquartered in Lagos and has a number of business segments across the country.

Oke said the medical service was established in 2003 as Marina Medical Services Ltd, which was acquired by Dr. Vivian Elumelu in 2010 and rebranded as Avon Medical Practice.

Among the dignitaries expected during the commissioning of the facility is Tony Elumelu, Oke disclosed, adding that there will also be free laboratory tests like blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, BMI, weight, height, and the like.

Oke said: “We are going to be opening up this facility officially to a 25-bed facility, which will be in addition to what we already provide.”

He noted that the affordable specialist center in Surulere, Lagos, is also a cyber facility.

“We’re on a mission to democratize access to health care so that more people can get access to quality, affordable health care, and that’s why Avon Medical came to be.”

Oke noted that with the additional facility, the medical center can offer more services to more Nigerians, adding that in the facility there are other services like surgery.

“This facility hosts the diagnostic center, outpatient unit—which is where we are currently—along with inpatient services, more specialized critical areas, the operating room, recovery, delivery, neonatal intensive care, the nursery, and intensive care units.

“The diagnostic unit has laboratory services across all the different areas. We have a CT scan and also an ultrasound scan.

“We also have the accident and emergency unit on the ground floor, where we can manage any critical cases.

Avon Medical also has a dialysis center.”

On what the medical center plans to do differently, Ejiro Nwachukwu, Consultant Radiologist and Head, Diagnostics and Dialysis Services, pointed out that the medical center has put some measures in place to ensure that patients can give feedback regardless of what they’ve gone through.

“So that if there’s any issue that needs to be managed or improved upon, we can work on that.

“Patient experience is key to us. In addition to that, we are talking about quality. We are currently on the journey of getting accreditation for quality in healthcare, and that includes ensuring patient safety, ensuring that they don’t unnecessarily suffer from surgery-related complications, post-op issues, neonatal complications, falls, or anything that can happen within the premises. We’re putting measures in place to prevent any drug reactions, and if anything does occur, we have collaborations with the necessary authorities to manage those situations.”
