The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Oye- Ekiti(FUOYE) branch, has given scholarship awards to 12 indigent students of the university.
The indigent but brilliant students comprising males and females are undergraduates of the institution and were selected from various levels and departments.
The scholarship awards were presented to the students during the Special Congress of ASUU-FUOYE, held on Wednesday at the Faculty of Science Auditorium of the University, presided over by the Comrade Zonal Coordinator, ASUU, Akure Zone, Dr Adeola Egbedokun.
The awards were given to the students by the Comrade Zonal Coordinator on behalf of the Comrade President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke.
Speaking on the scholarship, the branch Chairperson, Dr Akinyemi Omonijo, said: “the scholarship was through the generosity of the Union(ASUU) and its interest to continually support some of the indigent students of the school.”
According to him, “a sum of Nine Hundred Thousand naira(N900,000) was given to the 12 indigent students.”
Appreciating the Union, the Chairperson said: ” it is my honour to celebrate ASUU’s unwavering spirit of support for excellence in scholarship. Our Union’s Scholarship Programme is core to who we are as intellectuals and what we value the most. That is why we continuously strive to strengthen the programme ”
In his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator, said that the Union’s scholarship Programme will “continue to shape the future of so many inspiring students who will become the next generation to support academic excellence in Nigerian University system.”
The Financial Secretary of the branch, Dr Abayomi Fagbuagun, who doubles as the Convener of the branch Scholarship Committee and the Secretary of the branch Scholarship Committee, Comrade Emmanuel Chukwu announced each scholarship and recipient.
One of the award receipents of the scholarship Miss Akinwale Precious, on behalf of all the recipients thanked the Union for their generosity and the branch Scholarship Committee.
Present at the event were, immediate Past Zonal Coordinator, Prof. Olu Olu Olufayo, Resource Person of the Union, Prof. Alex Odiyi, Chairpersons of all branches in the Zone and branch members.
