The political crisis rocking Effurun, the administrative headquarters of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, since last weekend, continued unabated in the early hours of Sunday, with no fewer than six corpses of victims recovered by the police.

Investigations carried out by Daily Sun also revealed that scores of other victims with severe machete and bullet injuries are currently receiving treatments at various hospitals within Effurun metropolis and its environs.

Daily Sun also gathered that police operatives under the Warri Area Command, who acted swiftly to distress call by residents of the area, have arrested some suspects in connection with the incident.

The bodies of the deceased, which included five males and a female within the age range of 19 and 34 years, were reportedly killed at different locations in the city, and their corpses have been deposited at the Central Hospital in Warri

Information made available to Daily Sun revealed that while one of the deceased identified as Emmanuel, a.k.a Rogers, was shot dead within a compound, along Jakpa Road, three other bodies of the victims, including the female identified as Silvia, were recovered inside a room in the same compound.

It was also gathered that two other corpses identified as Darlington Odjikwo, male (19) and Osazu Omorege male (34) were recovered at Udumurugbo Quarters, about 600 metres away from where the earlier recoveries were made.

Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed this in a telephone conversation with Daily Sun, yesterday, said the killings were politically motivated.

He, however, assured the police have commenced investigations into the killings with the intention to unravel those behind the dastardly act.
