Tochukwu Michael Tochukwu, an Economics graduate from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, has carved an exceptional path in the fashion industry.
As the CEO of Asandrea Collections, he has turned his passion for creativity into a thriving brand that has stood the test of time for 14 years.
Tochukwu’s journey into fashion design began in 2010, fueled by his innate drive to create and his entrepreneurial spirit, which he nurtured from childhood.
“From a young age, I engaged in various ventures to support myself and build a foundation for my dreams,” Tochukwu recalled.
Balancing education and entrepreneurship, he developed a strong work ethic and a clear vision for success. This determination eventually led to the establishment of Asandrea Collections, a brand that reflects his passion for fashion and commitment to excellence.
Over the years, Tochukwu’s work has earned him multiple accolades, the most recent being the Outstanding Fashion Designer of The Year award at the 2024 Classic Africa Merit Awards.
“This award holds special significance for me. It came at a time when the economy is challenging, yet recognising the impact of my designs and contributions to the Nigerian fashion industry. I feel truly fulfilled,” he said.
Tochukwu described his journey as both challenging and rewarding. While Asandrea Collections has grown significantly, he acknowledged the hurdles faced along the way.
“We’ve learned to navigate challenges effectively,” he explained. “The brand’s success lies in its ability to blend African identity into designs, creating a unique appeal for clients who value individuality and quality. At Asandrea, we prioritise crafting outfits that suit the personalities of our clients, ensuring they receive value for their investment.”
For Tochukwu, the key to entrepreneurial success lies in passion, dedication and consistency. “You must love what you do and remain committed, no matter the obstacles. Hold on to God; He will guide you when the road gets tough,” he counseled.
Reflecting on his journey, the talented designer emphasised the importance of resilience and faith. “Life has taught me to stay strong – both physically and spiritually. Every phase has its time and season. Stay focused, believe, and never stop believing.”
