Former Chief Whip in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Dr Jonathan Robinson Obuebite has declared that the Appeal Court ruling which upheld the judgement of the Bayelsa Elections Petitions Tribunal was a reflection of the wishes of voters in Bayelsa.
In a statement addressed to Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, on their victory at the Court of Appeal, Obuebite said it is time for unity.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, had on Thursday dismissed an appeal filed by Chief Timipre Sylva, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging Diri’s victory in the November 2023 governorship election.

Honourable Obuebite, in his congratulatory message, emphasised the need for unity and cooperation among all candidates for the betterment of Bayelsa State.
Dr Obuebite stated that the judgement reflects the overwhelming choice of the people and signifies a new chapter in the state’s progress and development.
“All political contestants need to come together in the spirit of unity for the common good and growth of Bayelsa State,” he said. “Once again, I join in celebrating the success of Governor Douye Diri and Deputy Governor Lawrence as they continue to lead Bayelsa State towards progress and prosperity.”
