Insecurity, hardship threaten 2027 polls — APC youth leader warns

Mohd calls for urgent action to address youth concerns

From Sola Ojo, Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Leader in the North West, AbdulHamid Umar Mohd, has warned that if nothing tangible is done about the escalating insecurity and economic hardship experienced in the region and the country at large, mobilising voters, especially young people, for the 2027 elections may be a mirage.

Mohd told this correspondent in Abuja that the warning became necessary following the dwindling trust of young people in government projects, orchestrated by the escalating insecurity and economic hardship.

He called on the APC administration at all levels to take timely action to boost the political engagement and participation of youth ahead of the 2027 elections.

He stressed that the current administration must remember the critical role that the youth from this region (North West) played in the success of the current government.

“Their contributions were instrumental, and we should not forget their efforts. Insecurity and economic hardship are major concerns that could prevent the youth from being effectively mobilised in 2027.

“Measures to address these challenges include but are not limited to creating more job opportunities for the youth, ensuring the reduction in the prices of food commodities, and intensifying efforts to combat insecurity,” he said.

He further appealed to the government to include more youths in its plans, noting that “young individuals will step into leadership roles, potentially becoming governors in their respective states”.

Umar, however, commiserated with the families of those killed by bandits in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Katsina states, acknowledging the severe impact of insecurity on the affected communities in recent times.

“Therefore, we must fight insecurity with all our strength to create a safer environment for our youth and their future,” the APC youth leader urged.
