–Sylva pleads for peaceful poll

The All Progressives Congress(APC), in Bayelsa State has raised the alarm over what it describes as deliberate and calculated acts of violence against its members and supporters across the state and especially at Kolokuma/Opokuma and Sagbama Local Government areas.

A video post of an APC member drenched in blood complaining of how they are being attacked in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area had gone viral sparking calls for investigation by the Police.

The secretary of the APC governorship Media and Publicity Committee, Mr Julius Bokoru in a statement had decried the situation condemning it in very strong terms.
‘’We condemn this in the strongest terms but there is some deep sadness to it too. These are not just APC members, they are brothers, sons, peoples’ loved ones, breadwinners and above all Bayelsans.

“It is no longer politics to dehumanize any human, it is now an act of terror and sadism. We have alerted the security agencies and we are hopeful further attacks on our people will be nipped in the bud.

“This further goes to show the fret our friends from the other side are facing. Anxiety makes some men violent. But this anxiety wouldn’t have been there if they performed and had anything to campaign with.

“First it was Nembe-Bassambiri until the IGP SWAT team moved in and restored order, then there became threats of violence and murder at Odi. Now, it is a spontaneous attack of our people in their rallies and in their homes. This has to stop. We will protect our people in every legitimate means as we march to certain victory’’, he said.
Meanwhile, the APC governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva has appealed to APC members and its supporters not to engage in violence, noting that the party is on course to win the governorship election.

Speaking in an interview in Okpoama, Brass Local Government Area, Sylva declared that the attempts to stop him from contesting the election by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will fail.

“We don’t need to be violent because we have the people on our side; we don’t need to be violent. They are out there fishing for Court orders but they know they would fail because it is against the principle of natural justice. They would fail at the end. We are hopeful that we would get judgment at the Appeal Court. We will contest and we will win.
