APC govt’ll boost education, economic sectors –Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, has assured that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government will improve the standard of education and enhance the nation’s economy.

Ambode, who gave the assurance at the weekend at the 50th anniversary of Federal Government College Warri, Delta State, further assured that efforts would be made for unity schools to retain their lost glory. The governor, who is also an old student of the school, however, enjoined Nigerians to join hands to revive the education sector and the nation’s economy.

Also speaking during the golden jubilee celebration of the school, Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Barnabas Baba decried the antics of enemies of progress, who attempted to run down the virtues of the Federal Government College.

“We will not take kindly to any attempt to further erode the vision and foresight of this great college. Effort should be made to bring back the glory of the school,” added the deputy governor, who is also an old student of the college.

He said the school in its early stage had produced the best students in West Africa, stressing that most of them are holding important positions in government and outside the country as well. Prof. Gabriel Gordini Darah, who spoke glowingly of the school, told the students to be happy for being part of the institution.

Prof. Darah, an old boy, who is also the Dean, English and Literary Studies, Delta State University, Abraka, enumerated the giant strides being made by the old students in every sphere of life, adding that light of progress and prosperity should be upheld continually.

In his remarks, National President of Government College Old Students, Warri, Chief Chyma Iwuayanwu, lauded the progress made so far by the college, adding that the school would soon take its rightful position.

“FGC has set the pace and there is no going back. We urge the students to be upright in whatever they are doing,” said Iwuanyawu.

He added, “In this period, government cannot provided everything, particularly, when oil prices have gone down. I promise that all of us (old students) will continue to assist the school.”
