There is apprehension in the Orlu area of Imo State where a Nigerian lawyer based in the United States of America (name withheld) has allegedly exhumed the bodies of three members of his family.
The US returnee was alleged to have in liaison with two of his siblings and others, excavated the graves of his three relatives, on October 11, 2023.
In a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, son of one of the people whose bodies were exhumed, appealed to the police boss to come to their rescue by arresting and prosecuting those who reportedly dug out the bodies.
He told the Commissioner of Police to act before the situation escalated out of control.
The petition, dated October 16, 2023, also accused the suspects of stealing the body of his father and “unlawful possession of firearm.”
The petitioner alleged that the bodies of the father and his two siblings were taken to an unknown destination.”
Earlier, he had written to the Chairman of his community alleging that the father’s cousin threatened to exhume the three bodies.
In the letter by his lawyers, dated October 5, 2023, he alleged that the US returnee in question complained about the position of his father in the grave.
According to him, the positioning of the body of “our client’s late father is forbidden by his faith as well as the faith of his siblings,” the law firm stated.
