The travails of the Olukere of Ikere, Ganiu Obasoyin deepened, on Thursday, as a mammoth crowd is currently protesting against him, calling for his continued incarceration by the security operatives.

Recall that Obasoyin was arrested and remanded in prison for the alleged murder of one Femi Kolade, a toilet attendant at Fayose market in Ado-Ekiti.

Early on Thursday morning, scores of residents of Ikere were seen marching round the roads in the community chanting solidarity songs against the Olukere, while they were joined by many others who came out of their homes. It was gathered from some of the protesters that they were on their way to the state capital, in Ado-Ekiti, to continue to register their disdain for the monarch.

Singing hate songs against the Olukere and urging the police not to pamper him as allegedly been done earlier, the protesters, comprising aged men and women, palace chiefs and many Ikere people and youths, urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, to pay special attention on the trials of the embattled monarch.

The protest was a counter action to the pro-Olukere protest, on Wednesday, which urged the police to release Obasoyin and accused state government of witch-hunting him politically.
