The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled March 5 for the primary election to nominate its candidate in the November 8 Anambra State governorship election.
The party, in a notice, issued yesterday by its National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, indicated that aspirants for the governorship primary are expected to pay N5million for the expression of interest (EoI) form and N35 million for the nomination form.
However, the party noted that female aspirants and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) are only expected to pay for the expression of interest form, while young persons below 40 years are to pay for the expression of interest form and 50 percent of the cost of nomination form.
The governorship primary will be preceded by ward congresses to elect three-man delegates, on March 20 and 21, as well as local government congress to elect one national delegate per local government area on March 27.
According to the notice, aspirants for the three-man ad-hoc delegates and national delegates are to obtain the forms for N50,000 and N150,000 respectively.
It further indicated that the sale of expression of interest, nomination and delegate forms would last from February 24 to March 5.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last October, unveiled the timetable for the forthcoming Anambra governorship poll. The INEC chairman, Yakubu Mahmood, who spoke at a stakeholders’ meeting with political parties in Abuja, had noted that, “Party primaries will be held from March 20, 2025, to April 10, 2025. The candidates’ nomination portal will open at 9 am on April 18, 2025 , and close at 6 pm on May 12, 2025.
“The final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025. Campaigns in public by political parties will commence on June 11, 2025, and end at midnight of Thursday, November 6, 2025. Voting will take place in all the 5,720 polling units across the state on Saturday, November 8, 2025.”
