Former senator for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Ikechukwu Abana, yesterday, offered scholarships to 58 students from Enugwu-Ukwu community in various secondary schools and universities.

The ex-lawmaker also gave out packs containing various food items, wrappers, and N3,000 each to the elderly people in the community.

The event took place in his country home, Enugwu-Ukwu, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, and the gesture was carried out through his foundation, Senator I. G. Abana Foundation.

The Secretary of the Foundation, Arinzechukwu Okeke, told Sunday Sun that a total of 35 secondary school students and 23 university students benefited from the exercise.

“The scholarship for university students is worth N100,000 each while that of the secondary is N35,000 each. The elderly ones were given a food pack containing rice, beans, condiments, a wrapper and cash of N3,000 each,” Okeke said.

    The benefactor, Abana, said that he set up his foundation about 12 years ago and has since then been using it to touch lives positively. “And today, to the greatest glory of God, we have graduated about 78 university students that are now graduates and for the secondary, they’re over 200.

“And currently, we have about 48 university undergraduates in our scheme and over 100 students in secondary school. And I pray to God that we will be able to continue in this feat because I can see the impact it is making in the system”, Abana said.
