Chief Paul Chukwuma, the Young Progressive Party (YPP) candidate for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, has expressed dismay over the state’s declining education rankings, which now place Anambra behind Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi States in student performance.
In a statement released to journalists in Awka on Tuesday, Chukwuma criticised the administration of Governor Charles Soludo for failing to maintain Anambra’s historical educational excellence.
“Today, we have witnessed a shocking decline in key indicators of development in our state. Once a beacon of educational excellence for over a decade, the current administration has allowed this progress to wither,” Chukwuma said.
He noted that Anambra, previously a leader in education, has dropped significantly in ratings, trailing behind neighbouring states in senior certificate examination results, with the state absent from both regional and national top-performing lists for the 2024 NECO results.
“It has never been this bad in over a decade. This is a promise broken into pieces, a hard-won gain now lost. For us as a people, it is a dangerous signal for our state and the future of our children,” he added, highlighting the implications for Anambra’s youth.
Chukwuma vowed that the YPP would reverse this decline through its “New Anambra Agenda”, which prioritises education to foster sustained progress. “Our party, the Young Progressive Party, is determined to put Anambra State on the path of sustained progress,” he pledged, committing to transform “broken dreams into realities” if elected.
