National President of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Dr. Uche Odionyenma, has urged members of the health body to brace up for new opportunities to render services to a wider population of the country and thereby vastly improve health outcomes, when the broad-based preventive health checks initiative being put together by a media group and other stakeholders in collaboration with AMLSN, kicks off.
In a special New Year letter to AMLSN members to express his heartfelt appreciation for their unwavering dedication to the “noble profession,” he assured them that the association “has an exciting year ahead, filled with innovative projects and initiatives designed to elevate the status of Medical Laboratory practitioners in Nigeria.”
Continuing, Odionyenma stated that the leadership would undertake projects intended to make the current regime truly memorable in the hearts of Medical Laboratory practitioners, the Government at federal and state levels, ordinary Nigerians and Corporate Nigeria.
The proposed projects include the following: approval and full commencement of the MLSD programme; passage of National Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science bill into law; Hearts and Minds Campaign Initiative – an innovative legacy of true public service that will touch the hearts of AMLSN members and beneficiaries of laboratory tests; commencement of the construction of the Research Lab Project of AMLSN in Abuja; optimal performance of AMLSN website with creation of job portal; guard against breach of the MLSCN Act while ensuring the upholding of her statutory mandates; ensure commencement of centralized internship placement; strong advocacy to address Medical Laboratory Services manpower challenge; strong agitation for the reconstitution of MLSCN and constitution of FCMLST Boards; guard against retrogressive activities of training institutions or any organisation; advocating for improved welfare and working conditions for our members in both public and private sectors and strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, healthcare organizations, and industry partners, among other projects and initiatives being developed to make impact and touch the lives of Nigerians in ways that produce visible results while also raising the esteem of medical laboratories in the eyes of the citizenry.
While reiterating the commitment of AMLSN leadership to “creating value for members” and consolidating the position of the association as the leading voice for Medical Laboratory Science practitioners in Nigeria, he urged all members to join in shaping the future of the profession, declaring, “Together, we can achieve greatness.”
