The Labour Party (LP) chairman in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Diugwu Peter Chukwuemeka, has warned aspirants for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship and councillor positions against submitting fake academic credentials.
He issued the warning on Wednesday, May 21, when aspirant Ifeanyi Ajaegbu collected his nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja.
“Do not present fake academic credentials. Do not be surprised that your family members will report you. If you have fake credentials, do not pick our forms,” Chukwuemeka said.
Ajaegbu, an aspirant, outlined his priorities if elected, focusing on infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and job creation. He stated, “Today, I take a bold step towards digitalising the municipal, making Abuja a mega city through technology and massive investments in infrastructural development, education, health and well-being, economic empowerment, job creation, environmental sustainability, climate change, security, justice, and community safety.”
He criticised the current AMAC leadership under Chairman Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, claiming it has neglected these areas. “The current leadership has performed below par in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people at the grassroots,” Ajaegbu said. He pointed out poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, poor waste management, and lack of transparency in AMAC, which he described as failing to be a model for other local governments.
Ajaegbu added, “It is time for leadership that prioritises transparency, accountability, and community engagement. I assure our supporters, party members, and the public that I am dedicated to upholding the values, ideology, and principles of our party. My aspiration is driven by a passion to serve and make a positive impact.”
