The Archbishop of Ibadan Province, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev’d Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe, has appealed to political leaders at all levels to prioritise the welfare of citizens by alleviating pain, hunger and insecurity.
In his New Year’s sermon at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, the Bishop prayed that Nigerians, especially those in positions of authority, would embody the spirit of brotherhood and service in 2025 and beyond.
He also delivered an uplifting message of hope and faith, proclaiming that only God holds the power to shape destinies of people.
“Nobody can stop the progress of their fellow men and women,” he declared, reinforcing the belief that God is the Almighty determinant of our paths.
Drawing inspiration from St. Matthew 2:12, Aladekugbe, he recounted the biblical tale of King Herod’s sinister plan to kill Jesus. He emphasised how divine intervention thwarted his intentions.
He stated that the significance of the gifts of gold, incense and myrrh presented to Jesus at His birth, symbolised His roles as king, priest and the promise of preservation.
Aladekugbe urged the congregation to give their hearts and time to God, saying enduring life’s challenges is part of their spiritual journey.
“God is in full control,” he reassured, encouraging individuals to remain steadfast in faith.
