Senate President Godswill Akpabio yesterday charged the newly confirmed Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Nwakuche Ndidi, with putting an end to incidents of jailbreaks across the country.

Akpabio made this call following the Senate’s confirmation of Nwakuche’s nomination as the substantive Comptroller General of the NCoS, as recommended by President Bola Tinubu.

The confirmation came after the Senate considered the report of its Committee on Interior, which had earlier screened the nominee.

Presenting the report, the Committee Chairman, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, stated that the nominee met all necessary requirements for the position.

“He is not affiliated in any political leaning and he is a person of integrity. He is within the age bracket for the position. The Committee finds him worthy for appointment,” Oshiomhole said, adding that no petitions were filed against Nwakuche.

Following the confirmation, Akpabio commended the Committee for a job well done and congratulated Nwakuche on his elevation.

“Congratulations to the nominee (Nwakuche) for his elevation and his past services to this country. I hope this confirmation would spur him to continue to render impeccable service to our fatherland,” Akpabio said.

He further expressed hope that Nwakuche’s tenure would bring an end to jailbreaks.

“He is coming at a difficult time when we hear of jailbreaks. I hope the era of jailbreaks will come to an end during his tenure,” Akpabio added.
